Museum of Typography

A hidden gem for history, art, and design lovers

The Museum of Typography, located just outside Souda and about 15 minutes from Althea Maisonettes, is a unique cultural attraction in Crete—and the only one of its kind in Greece. Founded by Yannis Garedakis, a local newspaper publisher, the museum showcases the fascinating history of typography from the Gutenberg era to modern digital printing.

Visitors can explore authentic printing presses, rare books, wood and metal types, and interactive exhibits that bring the evolution of written communication to life. The museum also features exhibits on the history of newspapers, Cretan publishing, and traditional printing techniques.

Beautifully curated and welcoming to all ages, the Museum of Typography offers a meaningful and inspiring experience, especially for those interested in design, history, and the power of the written word.
